Nine cottages on a working slope

Vellamor House

A small vineyard above the valley town of Aubrelle. Stone cottages among the vines, one long table in the cellar, and the lights of the town twelve minutes down the lane.

Where you are

Vines above, town below

Vellamor is a farm before it is anything else. Eleven hectares of old vines on a south slope, a press house from 1912, and nine cottages built for the families who used to pick here. We rebuilt them slowly, one a year, and stopped at nine on purpose.

Aubrelle sits in the valley below. It has a market square, two theatres, a long street of restaurants, and licensed gaming rooms at the eastern end. The walk down takes twelve minutes; the walk back takes twenty, which is exactly the right amount of time to talk about the evening.

Most guests find us while planning casino country escapes — they want an evening out in the valley without sleeping in the middle of it. Up here you hear owls and tractors. That is the whole trade.

How long, and when

Shaping a stay

Two nights works for casino weekend getaways: arrive Friday, one evening down in Aubrelle, a slow Saturday on the slope, and home after breakfast on Sunday.

Four nights is better value and a different holiday. You get the market, a full day of walking, and the option of two evenings in town rather than one long one. Most casino leisure trips we host settle into this shape after the first visit.

A week suits people who want the vineyard itself. In spring you can help tie the vines; in September you can pick, badly, and be forgiven for it.

March – May

Spring

Cold mornings, bright afternoons, the garden going in. Aubrelle is quiet and everything is easy to get into.

June – August

Summer

Long evenings, swimming pond warm by July, town busy from nine. Book early if you want a specific cottage.

September – October

Harvest

The slope is loud with work and the cellar smells extraordinary. Our favourite time and the hardest to book.

November – February

Winter

Fires lit, half the town shut, and nobody else on the paths. Cheapest rates and the best sleeping weather.

The valley

What Aubrelle offers after dark

One long street, a square, and two lanes running off it. Restaurants along most of the street, the old theatre at one end, and the casino nightlife concentrated near the eastern gate where the licensed rooms are.

Everything sits within a few hundred metres, which is why casino travellers who come here tend to walk rather than drive. The last bus up the hill leaves at half past midnight, and there is a taxi rank in the square if you miss it.

Our journal collects the practical detail: opening hours, market days, which restaurants take walk-ins, and the walking routes worth doing before an evening out. It is written as plain casino travel notes rather than a brochure.

Worth knowing before you write

House position. No wagering is offered on this website. No claims are made about winning. Photographic identification is required at the card room door, nobody under eighteen is admitted, and lodging is never sold together with play.

People arrive here with a list of casino destinations and leave talking about the pond, the harvest, and the walk back up the lane in the dark. We are entirely at peace with that.

If you are still collecting casino travel ideas for this valley, start with the journal and then write to us with what you actually want.

The press-house gaming room has its own page: hours, tables, identification, and how it stays separate from the cottages. Use it if casino evenings on the slope are part of how you want to plan the stay.
